In the same way the United States celebrates the 4th of July, México and several Latin American countries observe their independence during the month of September, including Belize, Brazil, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Chile. Seattle’s Fiestas Patrias celebrates independence of these and all countries of Latin America.
The annual Fiestas Patrias celebration reminds us that the spirit of freedom is indomitable and helps maintain a bond between Latinos in the Northwest and their home countries throughout the Americas.
Fiestas Patrias begins with a community, family-oriented parade in the South Park neighborhood of Seattle (near Boeing airfield). The parade features spectacular dancing horses, floats, marching bands, students, and children in traditional Latin American dress. A community Fiesta featuring a health fair, horse show, children activities, and much more follows the parade.
Fiestas Patrias is an annual cultural and educational event that commemorates Independence of Mexico and several Latin American countries. In the interest of celebrating Seattle’s diversity, Fiestas Patrias is a celebration for everyone to enjoy.
